DIY Penny Decoration!

Welcome to my first DIY here on Zezzle! Today we will be making this.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Wood about a penny thick

Pencil/Marker

Saw

Drill & Nails

Hot glue

Paint (optional)

About 200 pennies (Depending on the size of your shape)

STEP 1: Decide which shape you will be doing, then draw it out on to your piece of wood, cut it out with a saw, and sand any rough edges. I had done mine for my nautical room theme ( that's why its a whale ) and so I already had it cut out, but I would recommend doing a simple shape. Do something more along the lines of a heart or something, so its easier for you later on. BE SURE YOUR WOOD IS ALEAST A PENNY THICK! This way, you wont be cutting pennies to fit along the edge and it will lay flat against the wall.

STEP 2: You can paint it if you'd like, but I left mine plain wood because I liked the look. Next you need to gather all of your pennies.

You need less pennies then you think, so don't go crazy and get an entire bag of pennies like I did. I used around 200 pennies.

STEP 3: Begin hot gluing your pennies on. You can chose to do a pattern like I did, or you can go ahead and glue all of them one way up, or just do it completely random.

STEP 4 (optional) : If you have any pennies hanging over the edge, you can choose to cut them or grind them down. Use your marker to draw a line where they need to be cut, and cut them. Do not try and cut them while they are glued on to your wood, they will just fly off. If you do choose to cut the pennies, just know that they are not copper all the way through, so they will have silver edges.

STEP 5: Glue the rest of your pennies around the edges

This Is why you needed wood a penny thick, or else you would have had to cut all those pennies or it wouldn't have laid flat on your wall.

STEP 6: Drill one or two holes (depending on your shape) and put your nails into the wall in a desired place. I wouldn't really recommend using command strips because your shape may be too heavy.

Ta-da! your beautiful penny décor is done!
